So Here’s Me
I’m Kai, your 6’2, transgender, Taiwanese American, therapist. I was born and raised in Southern California. The first thing people tend to notice about me is my height. My Asian American family has no clue why I’m this tall either.
I wanted to be a therapist since middle school. During these tumultuous years of growth, I found myself overwhelmed by the pressures of growing up and asking big questions about life. I remember noticing how the other kids and their parents struggled to communicate - I remember wanting to help. I turned to the study of psychology to better understand myself and to find the solutions to help others.
Working in the field, I’ve had the opportunities to help families reconcile their cultural differences especially within the AAPI community. I’ve developed a passion for working with couples, helping pairs build their relationships instead of tearing them down.
As part of the LBGTQ+ communities, I have greatly benefited from the support of my own therapist. I know first hand how important it is to have someone who can truly empathize with our unique struggles.
