EMDR

a Trauma informed and Mindfulness Based Therapy

Extreme and distressing life events can often leave people feeling traumatized, lost, and stuck, unable to move on. While these symptoms often resolve themselves, sometimes they decide to stick around, crippling a person to the point where they cannot perform daily functions. Therapy is an effective way to help people move on from traumatic events and help process what they experienced. The field of trauma focused therapy is constantly developing and expanding.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) is one of these psychotherapy techniques that was originally designed to help people heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences. EMDR stimulates our minds natural ability to heal itself through the use of Bilateral Stimulation. This stimulation helps the mind process the events and reducing the symptoms of trauma. EMDR follows an 8 phase protocol that involves a therapist working with a client on gathering details of the traumas in a persons life, teaching them effective ways a person relaxation and stress management techniques, and then taking them through “reprocessing” which helps the mind heal itself.
